Tools needed:
· * 5mm alen key and 2x 4mm alen keys
· * 50mm wide sticky tape and a razor blade.
· * Wire cutters, a crimping tool and a 3.2mm wire crimp or ferrule.
· * 3.5m of temporary rope 4mm or less in diameter
roof of an Eclipse Aurora if you have
trouble. Lay the umbrella horizontally on two saw horses or
benches and remove
the sticker from the bottom of the bottom hub #6 with a razor blade.
Under the sticker you will find four bolts, remove them all
which will release the tube locator #7
Wrap the wire with three revolutions of sticky tape just
below the crimp and cut the wire trying to preserve
as much as possible.
Gently pull the wire from the tube locator #7 and with
another small piece of tape wrap the end again
as shown two more revolutions
and slice off any excess. Roll the end between your fingers and flatten the
tape that is not around the wire end.
With a similar wrapping technique apply a piece of sticky
tape to the end of your temporary rope.
You can now join the wire to the rope
by over lapping the flattened ends and wrapping both with another
three revolutions
of tape. Try not to use too much tape as the join may not travel through the
umbrella arms and
various pulleys. It needs to be strong but not too bulky.
Gently pull the wire from the top of the main arm #14 and
push the rope as you go to limit the amount
of pressure on the join between the
wire and temporary rope. Help the join around the bend via an access
hole in
the top hub #11 then push the wire down slightly as the join moves past the
edge of the top hub’s #11
opening at the top of the main arm #14.
Help the wire / rope into the main arm and continue to gently
push and pull until you see the join come
out of the top of the top stay #18.
Stop, break the join and tie the temporary rope to one of the arms #1
to avoid
losing the end.
Now you will be able to remove the top bracket #22 by
removing the two bolts seen below left. Be careful
not to lose any parts that
you remove from this area. There are two small black plastic washers that can
fall
out from the top stay #18 and an internal white pulley.
When ready to reassemble, join the wire to the rope again and
use the parts diagram to double check the wire path
over the internal pulley in
the end of the top stay #18. Reverse the process by gently pulling and pushing
the wire / rope
through the umbrella helping it around the bends as before.
Once through detach the temporary rope and push the wire
into the tube locator
and re-crimp the end to act as an anchor. Reattach the tube locator and redress
the canopy using

reference if necessary.
