Cafe series Umbrella - Replace the Rope/Cord

Replacing the rope - CAFE SERIES umbrellas


Steps to replace the rope :

(1) Remove the umbrella canopy. Put tape around the umbrella arms so it doesn’t
tend to open while performing the repair. See picture 1 below.

(2) Unscrew the top half of the top hub and remove.
(3) The bottom half of the top hub looks like Picture 2 below.

(4) Using pointy nose pliers, pull the rope out of the lower hub. (See Picture 3 below )

(5) Take a new rope (approximately 8m). See Picture 4 below

(6) Cut the rope into two pieces of 4m each.

(7) Returning to the lower half of the top hub, insert the rope upwards through the
two holes indicated in the picture and tie knots. Refer picture 6 below. (NOTE: Ignore the
rope running through the pulleys in the picture, this would not be present at this point in
the repair)

(8) Run the rope down to the bottom hub and pass through the pulley in the bottom
hub, then back up to the top hub and pass through the pulley in the top hub. Bring the
rope right back down again and leave it hanging about 20cm below the bottom hub.
(9) Repeat the same steps for the second hole. You will now have two ends of rope
hanging about 20cm below the bottom hub.

(10) Re-attach the top half of the top hub to the bottom half; ensure the pulleys are
located in the groove. See picture 9 below

(11) Close the top hub, put the screws back to secure it. See picture 10 below.

(12) Returning to the two rope ends, pass them through the bell shaped plastic knob
(re-use from old rope). See Picture 11 below .

(13) Tie off the two rope ends in a secure knot and pull back towards the plastic knob.
