How to Realign the Rotation Indicator Acetal Ring on a Cantilever Umbrella

Overview

This article explains how to realign the rotation indicator acetal ring on an Eclipse or Aurora cantilever umbrella.

This adjustment may be required when the rotational locking handle does not close fully into the umbrella mast, even when the umbrella has been rotated into what appears to be the correct locking position. This usually means the rotation unit hasn't been seated correctly into the Rotation Indicator acetal Ring, making the arrow on the indicator acetal ring misaligned with the rotational unit.

Before you begin

Close the umbrella canopy completely before attempting the adjustment.

The umbrella frame will need to be lifted slightly from the base plate spigot. Due to the size and weight of the umbrella, we recommend having another person assist you.

Do not attempt this adjustment during windy conditions.

What You Will Need

  • A second person to help support and lift the umbrella
  • A clear view of the rotation indicator acetal ring and rotational unit
  • No tools are normally required.

Important

Do not completely remove or carry the umbrella unless necessary. The frame only needs to be lifted high enough to reposition the rotation indicator acetal ring.

Keep your hands and fingers clear of the bottom of the mast and the top of the spigot while lowering the umbrella back into position.


Instructions

1. Close the Umbrella

Fully close the canopy and ensure the umbrella is stable. 

2. Find the Arrow on the Acetal Ring

Look at the bottom of the umbrella pole. You will see a ring with a small arrow pointer. This arrow pointer must line up with the locking handle.

3. Lift the Umbrella Slightly

With help, lift the umbrella just enough to take it off the base spigot. Only lift it a small amount, just enough to move the ring.

4. Line Up the Arrow Pointer

Turn or adjust the ring so the pointer on the acetal ring is pointing in the same direction as the handle on the rotation unit.

5. Lower the Umbrella Back Down

Carefully place the umbrella back onto the base while keeping the arrow aligned.
Make sure the umbrella mast is sitting straight and fully in place.

6. Test the Lock

  1. Rotate the umbrella into different locking positions.
  2. The handle should close easily. Do not force it.
  3. If it is still tight, repeat the alignment step
When correctly aligned, the handle will close smoothly and lock the umbrella securely in place.
