Nova HD - LED Lighting Kit Instructions

Congratulations on Your Purchase

Congratulations on the purchase of your Nova HD Umbrella with integrated LED lighting kit!

There are a couple things to think about prior to installing your new umbrella:-

With the cabling supplied, the umbrella needs to be installed within 10m of a power-source-
How will the cabling run to the umbrella? This will depend on the type of surface that the umbrella is installed on and the environment it is installed in (eg. residential vs public or commercial space). -
>  Do you need the services of an electrician?

Components Supplied with the LED Lighting Kit

      -          1x Central Lighting Hub (installed on umbrella)

-          8x Integrated LED strip lights (installed on umbrella)

-          1x 24v low voltage power cable (installed inside the umbrella)

-          1x 10m 24v extension cable

-          1x Cable Connector

-          1x Remote control

-          1x 60-Watt transformer with AU/NZ power plug

NOTE: The 10m extension cable is a 24-Volt cable (low voltage). If you use this cable as supplied and connect the LED driver to an existing power plug that is within reach you may not require the services of an electrician. However, if you intend to make any modifications to the supplied cabling (eg. attaching extensions, running 240v cable, installing a new power-point) you will require a licensed electrician.

If in doubt, seek the advice of a licensed electrician.

Installation

There are a number of different methods of running the cable out of the umbrella and to the closest power-point. Select whichever is most appropriate for your application.

OPTION 1 - DIRECT CONNECTION, EXPOSED CABLING

This method is the simplest and involves taking the cabling out of the “mouse-hole” at the bottom of the umbrella mast and running it to the closest available power-source.

Note that you should take steps to ensure the cable does not become a trip hazard, ie. use electrical tape to tape it to the ground surface, use conduit, etc. This method is best suited to temporary use. For extended use or use in high traffic areas another method should be used.

Connect the cable from the umbrella to the supplied 10m extension cable using the cable connector. Be sure to match polarity (ie. brown to brown, blue to blue).

Run the 10m extension cable towards the power-source and connect to the transformer, then connect transformer to power source.

OPTION 2 – HIDING THE CABLING BELOW GROUND

This method involves running the cable out of the bottom of the mast of the umbrella, through a hole in the spigot and base plate, and then underneath the ground surface.

1-    First determine how the cable will run under the ground surface and to the umbrella. For example, if installing on timber decking the cable would run under the decking. If installing on a concrete surface, core a trench through the concrete and install conduit to contain the cable.

2-    Drill a hole into the ground surface (eg. through the timber decking).

3-    Install the base plate to the ground surface and note the location of the pre-drilled hole and hinge direction marked on baseplate. Refer to your Nova HD manual for base plate installation instructions.

4-    Remove spigot from umbrella and feed cable out the bottom of the mast. Connect spigot to baseplate with supplied spigot bolts. Carefully slide umbrella onto spigot whilst feeding cable through hole in the spigot plate and baseplate. Raise umbrella, being careful not to sandwich cable in the hinge plate. Secure spigot to base plate using the four spigot bolts provided.

5-    Now connect the umbrella cable to the 10m extension cable using the cable connector. Be sure to match polarity (ie. brown to brown, blue to blue).

Run the 10m extension cable away from the umbrella towards the power-source and connect to transformer, then connect transformer to power source.

OPTION 3 – RUNNING THE CABLING FROM THE TOP OF THE UMBRELLA

This method involves running the cable out of the top of the umbrella, instead of out the bottom and along or below the ground. This method may be more appropriate if there is a footpath or walkway between the umbrella and power-source and it is better to go above the walkway rather than at ground level.

   1.    Pull the cable that runs down the mast of the umbrella up and out of “mouse hole” at the top of the mast.

  2.    Determine which arm you will run the cable along. Run the cable along the arm and use cable ties to secure it.

 3.    Once the cable reaches the end of the desired arm, cut it to length. Attach one end of the supplied cable connector to the cable to create a plug..

  4.    Connect the other end of the cable connector to the end of the 10m extension cable. Be sure to match polarity (ie. brown to brown, blue to blue).

  5.    Use the 10m extension cable to reach the closest power source. Connect the cable to the transformer and the transformer to the power source.

                                                                                                                                                                                                         Remote Control Unit

To use the Remote Control simply press the ‘ON’ button once to activate (the lights should flash once in response. Then press ‘W’ button to activate the WHITE lights on the umbrella. Once the WHITE lights are on you can select any colour or pattern.

To change back from coloured lights to WHITE, press ‘W’ button twice.

The remote control works through Infra-Red (IR) and the remote control must have “line of sight” to the IR receiver at the bottom of the mast hub. If you are having trouble with the remote make sure you are    pointing the remote at the IR receiver.

                                                                                                                                                                                                         App for Smart Phone

The LED lights can be controlled by Smartphone app. This provides some additional features over the IR remote control (eg. setting timers). The app is very easy to use.

Scan this QR code to download the app for iPhone:
