Why do you use Velcro instead of zips on the rain gutters?
We get it, zps might seem like a neater or more secure option at first glance. But after years of testing in real-world outdoor conditions, we’ve specifically chosen Velcro for a few key reasons:
Ease of Installation and Removal
Attaching a rain gutter to an umbrella is often done while the umbrella is open and elevated. Velcro makes this process quick and simple, even when you're working at awkward angles. Zips, on the other hand, can be tricky to align and operate, especially when the fabric is under tension or the gutter needs to span multiple arms.
Flexibility and Movement
Outdoor umbrellas naturally move slightly with wind or user adjustment. Velcro offers a little give, allowing the gutter to flex with the structure. Zips are rigid by design and can strain, jam, or even break when subjected to movement or misalignment.
Maintenance and Durability
Velcro holds up better in outdoor environments. It’s less likely to rust, clog, or seize compared to zips, which can struggle with exposure to rain, humidity, or salt air. Over time, Velcro remains reliable with minimal maintenance.
